About
Lakes are a six-piece indie/emo band from Watford, known for their signature “glock-rock” sound—a blend of twinkly emo, math-rock rhythms, and post-rock textures. Since forming in 2018, they’ve become staples of the UK DIY scene, releasing three albums, including 2023’s Elysian Skies, praised by Noizze as “just as gorgeous as the name implies.”
Their upcoming fourth album, Slow Fade, out July 4th, marks a new chapter. Leaning into lush arrangements and cinematic storytelling, the band explores characters and themes through vivid, nostalgic lyricism. With guest features from members of High Regard, American Football, and Hovvdy, the album blends shimmering harmonies, pedal steel, glockenspiel, and vibraphone into a rich emotional journey.
Fronted by Roberto Cappellina and new member Cat Rowland, Slow Fade balances warmth and vulnerability across standout tracks like “Peach Fuzz” and “Hypernow.” The band’s evolution from mathy roots to expansive post-rock anthems is a testament to their growth—and their deep love of music and community.
Dedicated to the late Kev Banks, a key figure in their hometown scene, Slow Fade is both a tribute and a culmination. As Cappellina puts it: “Life is cinematic. Do the things you love. Value music.”
